Truly Asia?

2024

In May last year, Malaysians did the unthinkable.

Through people power, they ousted a 60+ year corrupt regime and voted in a new coalition into power.

Pakatan Harapan or the Coalition of Hope, led by PM4 Tun Mahathir comprising political parties PKR, DAP, Bersatu and Amanah.

They won by securing almost every Chinese and Indian vote. Plus an estimated 25% of votes from the majority Malays and some other communities.

Fast forward 15 months, how’s everything in Malaysia today?

Pakatan Hopeless?

Pakatan Hopeless  •  Pakatan Half-Baked  •  Pakatan Humour  •  Pakatan Hollow  •  Pakatan Haprak

Against all hope and optimism, sadly, PH has failed miserably 5 quarters into office. The cruel name calling doesn’t look like ending anytime soon.

From newsrooms to investment houses, to schools and coffee shops, across all communities, the comments on the ground are damning.

Shukor Salleh :
” Enough of blaming the old regime. What happened to the manifesto promises? Wages remain low and cost of living is higher now. A bunch of liars! “

Oo Tak Chek :
” Damn sian. This Old Man is a useless leader. Zero reform. Everyday is about race and religion . And Malaysians are fighting like never before. Next GE, I will go on holiday. “

Putu Mayam :
” This Kerala mama should step down. Why did we agree to a 100 year senile fella to do the job of reforming the country? Is he having a bf relationship with Zakir Naik? Upholding  the rule of law, podah! “

For the hardcore supporters of Tun and the Pakatan, some are asking for more time before assessing their performance.

In a study conducted by the Institute of Bedek Studies, they assessed Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional based on the internationally recognised parameters.

Here are the findings:

PH BN
1. Lower corruption
2. Stronger leadership
3. Fulfilling promises
4. Stronger racial unity
5. Religious tolerance
6. Economic performance
7. International Image
8. Foreign Affairs
9. Financial Management
10. Rule of Law

Yes, BN trounced Pakatan by a whopping 9 to 1.

That’s like a scoreline when Chelsea visits the Ettihad Stadium.

Zakir Naik  •  Khat  •  Dong Zong  •  Sex scandals  •  Fake Degree Ministers  •  Flying Car  •  Third National Car  •  Crooked Bridge  •  Never ending 1MDB trials  •  Party Implosion  •  Horrid Foreign Affairs  •  Rohingyas  •  Returning terrorists  •  Black shoes..

So much on the plate. No time for economic reforms.

Maybe that is low on priority and importance.

To most Malaysians, GE15 cannot come sooner.

Many nons will abstain from voting. The PAS-UMNO Coalition will win in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Singapore will need to double their spending on defence …
